BoKlok, IKEA's prefab housing
What will they look like?
We are still developing the design and layout, so we don’t yet have any images of the UK product. It will have a Scandinavian feel, be a timber frame construction and arranged as 1 and 2 bed apartments.
It will be similar to those already built in Scandinavia, but designed specifically for the UK market.
We expect to show what the homes will look like in May 2005.
When will the first homes be available?
We are looking for sites now. We expect to start on site in the autumn of 2005 and homes should be ready to move into in the spring of 2006.
How much will they cost?
BoKlok UK homes will cost less than similar homes for sale or rent in the private market.
People will be able to choose to rent or buy their homes. They will be offered at a price that is affordable to those with average household incomes of £15,000 to £30,000 per annum.
Will BoKlok homes be available to buy as flat packs from IKEA stores?
A BoKlok home needs to be built by specialists and is not suitable for self-build. The homes will be built by specialist contractors and then offered for sale or rent. BoKlok UK will market the built homes in conjunction IKEA stores local to each development.
