Yahoo! News - Ghost concert to revive music of the past
Tech company Zemph Studios will perform a phantom concert featuring two dead pianists. Scratchy recordings of Alfred Cortot in 1928 and Glenn Gould in 1962 have been transcribed into hi-fi midi and will play back on real live pianos, supposedly catching every nuance from the original performances.

Superboy Cover Gallery (Golden and Silver Age)

Bizarre/funny/absurd comic book covers, several of which show Superboy getting spanked. (The man spanking him is always surprised by the super-toughness of his ass, of course.) These would make a great tv series, I think. No irony, just show as-is. It would be pure joy, like Pee-Wee's Playhouse. Subversive innocence.

During the 1950s and 1960s, DC Comics engaged in a long-time infatuation with gorillas, especially talking purple ones. Supposedly espoused by Creative Director Irwin Donenfeld, and supported by such editors as Julius Schwartz and Mort Weisinger, the theory was that any comic with a gorilla on its cover was a guaranteed top-seller. At one point, DC was publishing so many funnybooks with gorilla-covers that its editorial staff found it necessary to monitor these efforts, as to limit the number of gorilla-covers to one per month!

LEGO LOGOS

The final betrayal of the plan for the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site--the news two weeks ago that the performing-arts center has been dropped from the $500 million fund-raising campaign for the memorial and museum--was consigned to an inner arts page of a Saturday edition of the newspaper of record, where weekend stories go to die. Picked up by an astute reporter, Robin Pogrebin, the latest development in the downward slide of the ideals and aspirations embraced for Ground Zero was buried in the hoopla of the announcement of the fund-raising committee.

The death of the dream has come slowly, in bits and pieces, not as a sudden cataclysmic event. It has not been a casualty of the more obvious debate over whether the replacement of the lost 10 million square feet of commercial space demanded by the developer is an economic necessity or the defilement of the land where so many died. This has been a subtler, more insidious sabotage, through the progressive downgrading and evisceration of the cultural components of Daniel Libeskind's competition-winning design...

Solar Light is and isn't Sunlight

More on Hybrid Solar Lighting: Parans collects sunlight off the roof and sends it throughout the building with fiberoptics. I wonder if you can store up light for use later, in some sort of light battery. I know some very clever people at Harvard know how to slow light down to the speed of a bicycle, so with a long enough garden hose filled with cold sodium atoms, maybe you could light your whole house all day with just the sun?
