arquitectum has an ideas competition for an observatory-tourist lodge, $50 to $300 registration, $5000 top prize, plus 10 silly honorable mentions for the "poetic project," "utopian project" and so on. Run some quick numbers and ask yourself, why not run your own architecture competition? Wouldn't be so hard, and you could probably spin it as a tax-free operation. Sorta like the idea we had about running our own awards show.
